The Making of the Retrofit Pen
In 2007 I became interested in vintage fountain pens. This led to an unsupervised shopping spree on eBay. An advertisement for the Triangle Pen Show near Raleigh, NC was used as packing material for one of the pens. I made reservations for the show.
At the show I realized that the pens that I was so proud of having purchased were incomplete parts pens and not restorable. The people that attended the show had very little interest in what I had.
When I returned home I went to my workbench and sorted out the parts. I figured out how to make a useable ballpoint pens using vintage caps and barrels and modern ballpoint parts. I had created pens with the beauty of vintage pens and the reliability of modern ink systems. The “Retrofit” pen was born!
